Once you have entered your company vision/mission statement, you can create a new plan by clicking the “Create Plans" option in the left menu and then selecting "Create a Plan" at the top. When the "Create a plan" panel opens, you fill in the information to define your plan. This includes the start and end dates for the plan, the name of the plan and the time allotted for editing it. The next screen allows you to assign users to your plan, and set their permissions. Having created your new plan, the next step is to create your Objectives, Strategies and Actions.
Your plan is structured into three layers: Objectives, Strategies and Actions. The Objectives are your main goals for the plan (e.g. Achieve sales of $2,000,000 with profits at 10% of income before tax). The strategies are the practical measures you will take in the pursuit of the Objective, and the Actions are the specific tasks associated with this.
For example:
Objective: Achieve sales of $2,000,000 with profits at 10% of income before tax
Strategy: Utilize marketing techniques
Action 1: Develop a retention program
Action 2: Create a direct mail program to 2500 prospects
Each action must be assigned a time frame for completion and a responsible person. You can also add a budget, status, and notes for tracking and reporting.
After you create a new plan, the next step in Getting Started is the creation of Objectives, Strategies and Actions within the plan. This step helps you to plan out the goals, activities and tasks required to deliver your project on time and under budget. To begin, open your plan in “edit” mode (the instructions panel to the left of each page will help you do this). Enter your first Goal or Objective, then enter the first strategy for this objective by clicking on the “S” that appears below it. Once you have an Objective and a Strategy, you can start adding the Action items. Do so by clicking on the “A” that appears below your Strategy. You can add as many Objectives, Strategies and Actions as you need. Once you have finished, choose “Log Out of Editing” at the top of the page, to allow other users access to the plan.
After completing your plan, you have enough information to be able to use the intelligent reporting features. Click on the "View/Edit/Print" option in the left menu, and select the "View" icon next to the plan you want to report on. In this screen, you can customize how your data is presented using the drop-down menus at the top. Once you have made your selections, click "printer friendly version" to print. You will be given the option to print your company vision/mission statement, and reminded to change your printer settings to landscape. For best results, change each of your page margins to 0.75. To return to your plan list, choose "Return to list:" at the top.
Each plan has a key at the bottom of the page, explaining the color coding used and any icons you may see.
